The vision of Towards Uhuru is to contribute meaningfully towards improving the quality of lives of all South Africans and people living in developing countries across the world.

Uhuru Peak is the tip of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa. Uhuru is the Swahili word for Freedom and Independence. However, Letta Mbulu’s song “Not Yet Uhuru” has imbued Uhuru with the meaning of not only political freedom, but also the pursuit of economic freedom and freedom from poverty.

Towards Uhuru continues this pursuit of freedom from poverty through research, facilitation and economic development strategies. Towards Uhuru’s strength spans economic development, specifically tourism, industry sector development, entrepreneurship support and sustainable development. Towards Uhuru is currently also researching alternative models of Corporate Citizenship in order to optimise private sector’s contribution to the critically important area of socio-economic development.
